• A minimum of five years’ experience in planning, writing, editing, and production of newsletters, press releases, annual reports, marketing literature, and other print publications and/or directories

• Experience in building, mentoring, and coaching a team of communications and outreach specialists

• Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive communication, media relations, and marketing program to advance an organization's mission and goals

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Communications and Public Relations will work collaboratively with senior leadership to develop and implement communication strategies to broaden the impact of Special Health Resources programs and oversee organizational messaging and constituent services. The Director of Communications and Public Relations will be responsible for Special Health Resources varied and integrated communications products and services including: newsletters and other print publications; web, e-news, and other online communications; media and public relations; and marketing.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications plan to advance Special Health Resources’ brand identity; broaden awareness of its programs and priorities; and increase the visibility of its programs across key stakeholder audiences.
• Create marketing/public relations strategy that will allow Special Health Resources leadership to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted, high-level external audiences, including the media and key influencers.
• Recruits and provides direct supervision for graphic designer and marketing liaisons.
• Identify challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization. Work with leadership team and staff to recognize internal and external communications opportunities and solutions, then define and execute appropriate strategies to support them.
• Assist in the planning, organizing and coordination of special events, open houses and tours; provides support to other departments for events as requested; assists in promotion of all events and participates only as necessary.
• Serve as communications counselor to Special Health Resources executive leadership team.
• Review and recommend media opportunities, and prepare talking points, speeches, presentations, and other supporting material as requested.
• Oversee development of all Special Health Resources print communications including the annual report, marketing collateral materials and electronic communications including Special Health Resources’ website and newsletter; manage relationships with associated vendors.
• Serve as a spokesperson and lead point person on media requests that help promote and/or impact the organization.
• Oversee the day-to-day activities of the communications/marketing and outreach functions including budgeting, planning, and staff development.
• Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
• Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach on a consistent basis.
• Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments as requested.

Bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, communications, or related field is required. An advanced degree is preferred
